This Bee Hotel is perfect to attract Solitary Bees.
Once up, it may take about 2 weeks for the bees to find your accommodation, be patient it will happen and when it does, be proud knowing that you are now helping and caring for our precious bee population.
Solitary bees are extremely docile and very approachable. This hotel will not attract the well known Honey Bees.
Solitary bees generally arrive without you knowing it, so take a couple of minutes a day to watch the holes, you will be surprised and entertained. Unlike the honey bees these little chaps generally get out of bed a little later.
They will use the holes as a safe breeding place. Once they have laid their eggs and put enough food into the pantry for the youngsters they will seal the entrance, protecting the eggs and hopefully preventing predators from laying their eggs in the same holes. Once sealed its a case of wait and watch. The young will hatch a month or two later, or in the early spring.
Measurements:
A brass hook is at the back for hanging.
Length: 20cm
Width: 7cm
This Bee Hotel is hand made in South Africa.
We wish you many happy hours of viewing, and from it may there be many discussions around our wildlife and its conservation. Not to forget it’s importance to our own existence.
